Music Concert

So as a band, we are planning on entering a "contest/concert" here in Sri Lanka were we have to compete against other bands. To make sure that we get into the tournament, we first have to make sure we make it through the opening pat of the concert, which is the auditions. To make it through these we are planning on playing "When September Ends" by Green Day. Then if we make it to the later rounds, we will play:

  1. The Hell Song -- Sum 41
  2. I'd Do Anything -- Simple Plan
  3. Fade to Black -- Metallica
  4. One Last Breath -- Creed

This activity would connect to the CAS activities because we show increased their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth, undertaken new challenges, planned and initiated activities, worked collaboratively with others, shown perseverance and commitment in their activities and develop new skills. This feels very good because this process of learning and playing in this concert really connects to the criteria in the CAS blogging.

Hopefully we will make it through. Wish us luck!!! :)

January - February

Creativity:

I have kept working hard on my bass skills and have developed into a sufficient player to play with the band. As of the beginning of January, Bharat, Skylord, Davide' and myself have been working hard to get together to have a few band practices in the Music room above the auditorium. It has been a very productive two months in that sense. The only person that is still to come is a drummer, which is hard to find because there is almost no one in this school who is a drummer or is willing to give up their time to come after school. These practices really developed Working collaboratively with others and Developing new skills.

Badminton:

Every week, on Mondays, Teru and me plan and organize a Badminton activity for the younger children in our school. So we teach them the basic skills on how to serve, smash and placement on the court. They have developed skills and are really starting to enjoy the sport. This helps Planned and initiated activities and increased their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth.

Going back to the initial goals, they were;
  • To help the students develop their badminton skills (if they want to learn, that is)
  • To develop my badminton skills while also teaching the students
  • To develop a leadership
  • To further develop my teaching of badminton (this is the area for growth)
  • To plan and initiate what we’ll do every week
  • To work collaboratively with Teru, Ms. Lockwood and everybody else
  • To show perseverance and commitment in this activity.
As we went through this block, teaching the younger kids, we learnt new skills and managed to teach them the very basic skills in badminton. What they were interested in was to learn the basics so that they could play their own games with their friends and not really learn to play the sport for real.

Also, as an extra activity, I travelled with the OSC badminton team to go up against the British school in a tournement. Overall, we all did well, but we did loose our combined match (Kobena and Myself).

SAISA BOYS FOOTBALL:

This has been a very hard two months of training to prepair ourselves and the team as a whole to compete in the SAISA tournament in Dhaka. As the season progressed, we reached some difficulties due to a number of students not behaving as they should have been. So due to that, we left with 12 players to Dhaka. While we where in Dhaka, we worked very hard and won our first two games in the pool games. When we met AES in the 3rd game, there was another unfortunate event where I  got a neck injury from a rough tackle from the goalkeeper. They took me to the hospital o make sure that I didn't have any serious neck injuries. I had to stay at the hospital that night and was allowed to leave around 12 the next day. With only 11 players and no substitutes, we were not able to perform at our top level. With me out of the team, the boys worked very hard to get to the position we were supposed to get, but we got 2nd place in sportsmanship, so at least we worked hard, and cheered the other teams on. Our collaboration, personal excellence, undertaken new challenges and perseverance to the activity really developed during this tournament and we got to meet new people and expand out knowledge about people.

Track and Field:

As soon as we came back from Dhaka, we started with the intense training for the competition in Dehli. We are being  trained by Davide's father, Mr. Gresham who has been training us all of February so that we have a chance against the huge competition in Dehli. This season is so short that we only have 6 weeks and therefore need to work a lot harder to develop into fit athletes. This training develops Worked collaboratively with others in the relay teams, Undertaken new challenges which would be trying out long jump and shot put which I have never tried before.

Practice, with intense stretching
